Session Structure

Typical Session
A typical session in the year 2025/26 had:
- Warm-up (10–15 min)
- Main topic (35–40 min)
- Break (10 min)
- Second topic or hands-on challenge (15–20 min)
- Game (15–20 min)
In 2026/27 we will slightly expand all the sections to make it 2 hours instead of 1h 30 min.
Warm-up
- 4–6 problems.
- Low to medium difficulty.
- Source: past maths challenges and olympiads; sometimes we make our own problems.
- In the year 2026/27 we will try adding 1–2 problems from previous topics to improve interval learning.
Main topic
- This is where we teach and learn new complicated stuff.
- 5–15 min of collective discussion (depending on the topic).
- Then children work with individual problem cards.
- Cards are designed to teach different aspects of the topic, and their complexity gradually increases from very easy to very hard.
- We help and support children individually during this work.
After the break
- We either have a second topic with minimal teaching, or a hands-on challenge/puzzle.
- Max. 2-minute discussion, then individual work.
Game
- At the end we play a game.
- The games are strategic, geometric, mathematical, spatial – fun, but not purely entertaining.
- Another important restriction is that the rules should be explainable in 2 mins.
